Bill would revamp Oregon’s initiative system

 

The Oregonian: Secretary of State Kate Brown is proposing changes in Oregon's citizen initiative system that she says will reduce abuses.The proposals Brown announced Monday will go before the Legislature as House Bill 2005. Bill Sizemore's continuing legal problems have highlighted what critics say are weaknesses in the initiative system. The measure builds on restrictions on signature gathering and other aspects of the initiative system that the Legislature passed in 2007."I've heard from Oregonians over and over again about their frustration with the initiative system," Brown said. "We need to restore the confidence of voters in the system."
