Report on Rich Shows Massive Effort to Influence Legislative Election
Indigo Journal: Someone has done a great deal of work aggregating data on the method by which Howard Rich and his friends allegedly made an exceptional effort to influence SC's last round of State Legislative elections. They’ve pulled together hundreds of contribution disclosure forms to demonstrate that allegedly over half a million dollars was spent by this group in an attempt to gain a controlling interest in the SC State Legislature, as well as to deploy “astroturf” grass roots right wing groups in South Carolina. We’ve been told Rich was busy and rich. We’ve heard rumors and claims about Robert Ford, ministers on the payroll and it’s been clear he’s a major supporter of the Governor, but this report goes far beyond that. Delivering 20 thousand dollars to a campaign for the SC House of Representatives is more than enough to own the seat after the election. Several candidates appear to have received the majority of their contributions from this source, filtered through multiple shell corporations, political committees and advocacy groups, many of which shared an office on Spring Street in New York to keep the contributions under the thousand dollar limit and delivering after the last disclosure filing deadline so no one would know until after the election.
